Joining 410 participating teams from 23 countries, Claret School of Quezon City represented the Philippines in the 2024 FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League Asia Open Championship, held from August 2 to 6 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Wan Chai District, Hong Kong.
With this year’s theme, MASTERPIECE, more than 4,000 participants were challenged to integrate art with STEM elements, showcasing the synergy between creativity and technology. The competition featured various categories catering to different age groups, highlighting the robot's performance. Teams were evaluated on robot design, innovation projects, robot performance, and core values.
The CSQC team developed the BIHIS app for the competition, which won the BEST INNOVATION PROJECT AWARD. The app caters to users' wardrobe needs and offers three (3) essential features: outfit inventory, an intuitive outfit planner, and convenient shopping options. The BIHIS application has color-coded categories: blue for formal, yellow for casual, red for evening wear, and green for sports. The team used Flutter software to code and process the BIHIS application.
The project tackles fast fashion, which not only chooses the trending and popular styles at breakneck speed to meet consumer demand but also promotes reusing and organizing old and new clothes, empowering youth to thrive amidst busy schedules, upholding sustainability in fashion, and uplifting communities.
Along with other preparations before the competition, the team members gathered at the Heart of Mary Chapel for a Eucharistic Celebration last July 13, which was presided over by Fr. Eduardo P. Ricaborda, CMF, the Finance Administrator. In his homily, Fr. Ricaborda encouraged the team members to overcome their fears and always trust in God.
With the wholehearted and collaborative support and unconditional love of parents and guardians, the CSQC community, and the team’s sponsors, the team members found joy in reaping all the rewards of their efforts.
The team expressed gratitude for the untiring support of the administrators, teachers, and school community. #ScientiaMaximeCumVirtute
